OUR HISTORY

Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you.

- Frank Lloyd Wright

Liberty Cedar, founded in 1990 as a small business in South County, Rhode Island, supplies both interior and exterior wood to many of the most beautiful homes being designed, constructed and renovated today. From Rhode Island to Long Island, to the Cape and Islands and beyond, Liberty Cedar supplies quality interior and exterior wood products. Our newest location, in Charleston, South Carolina, is supplying wood for some of the loveliest Victorian and Colonial style homes in the south.

Wood flooring, paneling and trim warm a home while shingle roofs and cedar siding weather the storms. The Liberty Cedar team is proud to be part of one of our nation's oldest industries and part of many beautiful homes and buildings throughout New England and beyond.

With more than 25 years in business, we value our decades of lessons learned, we continue to explore new ways to work with materials and, most of all, we look forward to continuing our long-time relationships with our loyal customers and to beginning relationships with new customers.

Liberty Cedar is Part of a Long Lumber Industry History

Beginning with the timber workers and lumberjacks of our nation's early days to the innovative millwork of today - our nation continues its love for fine wood.

In the early 1600s, logging was essential to the survival of settlers. By the 1800s, as the population grew and the requirement for wooden structures increased, lumber was in high demand.

In the early 1900s, the Sears Modern Home catalog featured kit homes with lumber being delivered directly to its new address. In New England, builders were busy constructing Cape Cod style homes from available natural resources. They crafted shingles from cedar trees and milled pine and oak for hardwood flooring.

Today, architects and builders are constructing new homes and renovating historical properties that continue to celebrate the beauty of wood.
